The Area
Perched high above the Semois valley, Rochehaut is a small Ardennes village with big views. Stone houses, quiet lanes and a laid-back atmosphere give it that timeless village feel, while the surrounding hills and forests make it a perfect base for exploring the region. Just below the village lies Frahan, tucked into a sweeping bend of the river, one of the most beautiful views in the Ardennes.

There’s plenty to see and do around Rochehaut, from exploring the Ardennes to discovering local sights, walks and activities. None of these are required, and they’re not included in the convention price, they’re simply options within easy reach that we recommend checking out during your stay. We’ll also be organising a few of these activities as a group. If you’d like to join us, keep an eye on the schedule on the Events page for the activities we’ll be heading out for together. Pick what takes your fancy, or simply stay at the house and enjoy the weekend at your own pace.

In the village
Rochehaut beers are for savouring, on their own or with food. The vast almost 500m2 restaurant adjacent to the brewery is the perfect place to enjoy one of our famous grills or another of the chef’s delicious dishes… washed down with a good beer of course. And you can be sure that your beer is always top quality: the pumps are linked directly to the vats. How’s that for a short supply chain?

In the village
The wildlife park, located at the entrance to Rochehaut village, is home to some 40 species, including farm animals, forest game and more unusual, exotic specimens.

In the village
Comfortable seating in three carriages of two small trains. In winter, the glass windows are re-fitted to the carriages of one of the trains to shelter you from the elements.

In the village
The agricultural museum is not just about farming but about all the VILLAGE TRADES. It is also home to a wonderful collection of old tools from rural Ardennes, possibly the only collection of its kind in Europe. Behind the scenes, an IMPRESSIVE MECHANISM operates several old farming machines. A sight not to be missed!

The Ardennes around Rochehaut are full of trails, viewpoints and little places worth exploring. From an easy stroll through the valley to a longer hike with a view, there’s plenty nearby for those who fancy stretching their legs. We’ll organise a few group outings, so check the Events page for the schedule if you’d like to join us. Of course, there’s no pressure to go anywhere.

In the village
The belvedere on the road out of the village, looking down on a hamlet the river almost encircles. A path drops to it and crosses on a footbridge.

Starts at the church
Six kilometres from the church on paths and ladders bolted into the rock. The tourist office grades it difficult and reckons three hours, with 310 m of climbing.

All in the village
A microbrewery pouring five of its own beers, a museum of the region’s farming past, and forty Ardennes and European species across forty hectares, toured by little train.

A short drive
A wooded spur at Botassart that the Semois wraps almost the whole way round, classified natural heritage. There is a free car park at the viewpoint.

Passes through
The long distance path that follows the Semois for some 209 km runs straight through. The Promenade de Laviot is about 4.5 km of it, down to the water and back.

Frahan on foot
This valley grew tobacco for a century, and the timber drying sheds still stand around Frahan. Corbion, next door, keeps a small museum of the trade.

A short drive
Godefroid de Bouillon’s fortress, on the rock above its own loop of the Semois, with a keep and a run of underground passages to walk through.
