We’ll be sharing one venue together for three nights, so a little consideration goes a long way. These are the things we expect from everyone while we’re there, as well as what may happen if someone doesn’t meet those expectations.
These rules apply to everyone staying in the house for the entire event, including the organizers.
Always ask before touching someone, and always ask before touching someone’s suit. A “no” is enough. It doesn’t need a reason, an apology, or a second request.
Respect the answer the first time.
Bedrooms are private spaces. Don’t enter a room unless you’ve been invited in by someone staying there.
Having had a drink is not an excuse for ignoring these rules. You’re still responsible for your behaviour and how you treat the people around you.
There are no designated photo areas at Rochehowl, so the rule is simple: ask before photographing anyone, and ask again before posting the photo.
Agreeing to a photo does not mean agreeing to have it shared online. Respect people’s privacy and their answer.
If someone asks you to delete a photo or other content of them, remove it there and then. Respect their request without arguing about it.
Suiters get right of way on stairs and in doorways. If someone in suit is coming through, give them the space they need to pass safely.
Do not grab, pick up, or move anyone in suit. Never put a drink into a suiter’s paw without asking first.
If a suiter signals that they need to leave a space or need the area cleared, give them room immediately. Questions can wait until they’re safely out.
Any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as masks, if required by the venue or other Rochehowl policies, must be worn.
Wearing costumes, accessories or displaying items made from real fur is not allowed.
To prevent damage to costumes and venue property, body paint requires individual permission to be obtained by the organization. Face makeup does not require permission, but please be careful!
When in public areas, attendees may not wear clothing or accessories which are overly revealing, inappropriate to the atmosphere of the convention, or likely to draw reasonable complaint or offense. This includes clothing or accessories that are obviously fetish related.
Some normally inappropriate clothing or accessories may be included as part of a costume if the organization grants specific approval.
When in convention-exclusive areas, attendees may not wear clothing or costumes which are visibly "anatomically correct" or indecently revealing the wearer's own private anatomy.
Please keep in mind that your behavior reflects on the fandom as a whole. All convention-exclusive areas and daytime convention programming are considered to be rated "PG-13" at all times. Some events may be rated "R", sometimes also referred to as "After Dark" or "AD" events. Those may feature mature topics and will be properly marked on our schedule and on-site. Some main events may contain content not suitable for all audiences.
Below is a list of 'questionable' items that are specifically allowed in public spaces when you’re out with the group:
Kariwanz masks - Without further latex and/or fetish-related clothing
Pup masks - Without further latex and/or fetish-related clothing
Nobody is counting your drinks, but please look after the people you arrived with. If someone seems unwell, uncomfortable or needs help, tell an organiser early rather than waiting for things to get worse.
The bedrooms are tucked above and below the main living floor rather than along a corridor, so the layout gives us a little more separation than a typical hotel.
That’s why there’s no hard indoor curfew. We still ask everyone to keep things reasonable, especially late at night, so people who are sleeping can actually sleep.
The terrace is different because the building next door isn’t ours, and the people staying there didn’t sign up for Rochehowl.
Please keep outdoor noise down after 22:00 so we can enjoy the terrace without disturbing our neighbours.
The kitchen is the one room everyone needs to use, so please clean up after yourself. Wash what you use, put things back where you found them, and leave the space ready for the next person.
These behaviours are not tolerated. We’ve chosen to be specific rather than use vague language about “making people uncomfortable”, so everyone knows exactly where the line is.
Sexual harassment, and continuing after a no
Racism, transphobia, homophobia and the rest of that family
Following somebody around the house, or engineering it so they cannot get away from you
Photographing somebody who said no, or posting a photo somebody asked you not to
Going through somebody’s belongings, or entering a bedroom uninvited
Pressuring somebody into the spa, into a bedroom, or into a drink
If something happens that needs urgent attention, contact a member of the Rochehowl team directly. Don’t wait for an email or assume someone else has already reported it.
We’ll make sure you have a clear way to reach the team during the event, including for anything that needs attention in the middle of the night.
When you report something, a member of the team will listen properly and give you space to explain what happened. Tell us what you would like to happen, and the organisers will decide what action to take and let you know what we’ve decided.
We won’t pass your name on to the person you reported without asking you first.
Removing someone from a house on a hill in March is a little different from asking someone to leave a convention centre. There’s no bus outside, the nearest station is a drive away, and it may be dark and cold.
None of that means we won’t ask someone to leave if it’s necessary. It simply means we’ll be honest about what that involves and make sure the situation is handled as safely and responsibly as possible.
